Rubiks Challenge

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM helps students think, create and solve real-world problems. Students learn how to:

  • Ask questions

  • Think creatively

  • Work together

  • Solve problems

Our STEM Program

All students take part in a weekly STEM lesson with a specialist teacher.

Our STEM space is a flexible, hands-on learning environment designed for creativity and exploration.

The space includes:

·       Moveable tables that can be arranged for different activities

·       Open floor areas for building and testing

·       Access to water and a kitchen space for science experiments

Lessons include:

·       Hands-on learning

·       Building and creating

·       Coding and technology

·       Solving real problems

Students work both individually and in teams. They learn new skills and then apply them in creative ways.

A key part of our program is Design Thinking, which is a process where students:

  1. Understand a problem

  2. Think of ideas

  3. Build a solution (prototype)

  4. Test and improve it

This approach helps students:

  • Be creative

  • Build resilience

  • Learn from mistakes

  • Develop innovative solutions

Opportunities for Students

Our STEM program provides opportunities for students to challenge themselves and go further.

Students will have the chance to:

·       Enter competitions such as RoboCup

·       Participate in the Science Talent Search (STS)  and compete with other schools across Victoria and Australia

·       Apply their skills in real-world challenges as part of the Oakleigh Education Precinct

Our STEM Program is supported by the Tom Ashmor Foundation who have generously donated a grant to our school.
